Forklifts and other vehicles operating in the Market must be registered with both VicRoads and the Melbourne Market Authority (MMA) to ensure they meet each organisation's safety standards. So this can be verified, all vehicles must display a current MMA registration plate, registration expiry sticker and VicRoads registration plate. For detailed information on how to register, renew or transfer a Market vehicle, please download the MMA Approved Vehicle Registration, Renewal & Transfer User Guide. Please ensure the vehicle has a current VicRoads registration before completing the MMA Vehicle Examination Checklist and registering with the MMA. To minimise any financial barriers to registration, the MMA’s annual fee was reduced in 2024 to $20. Please note that the MMA does not influence or receive any portion of the VicRoads registration fee or the Vehicle Examination Checklist fee from approved Service Providers. Please direct any queries on these matters to VicRoads or the Service Provider.
The process to renew the registration of an existing vehicle is as follows:
You will be notified when your vehicle is due for renewal with the MMA on your monthly statement the month before its expiry date. This will be the same date as the VicRoads registration renewal, which VicRoads will contact you about.
Once you have paid both registration fees, book an MMA Vehicle Examination Appointment with an approved Service Provider listed below. The Service Provider will submit the completed checklist to Customer Service.
Customer Service will then contact you directly to arrange collection of the MMA registration expiry sticker.
If you have any questions about this process, please contact Customer Service.
When a forklift or electric vehicle is sold, disposed of, or removed permanently from the Melbourne Market, the MMA must be advised in writing of the change so billing records can be updated.
Please download the MMA Approved Vehicle Registration, Renewal & Transfer User Guide for a copy of the form and instructions on how to submit
Please note that all transfers must be completed with VicRoads first and a current VicRoads registration in the name of the purchaser must be provided to transfer MMA registration.
There are two LPG fuel stations at the Market. The North LPG station is operated by the MMA and the South LPG station is operated by Fresh State. MMA LPG tags are required to refuel at the MMA –operated North LPG station. One tag will be issued for each registered forklift, and fuel purchased will be billed monthly via your MMA Customer Account.
For enquiries relating to the South LPG station, please contact Fresh State.
